Take Shelter (2011)
This truly is an amazing film, perhaps even a masterpiece (though one should never proclaim such things without the benefit of time - many films I’ve thought were such turned out to be, years later and watched all over again, not nearly so important/profound/brilliant). It’s continually unsettling, anxious, and foreboding - qualities embodied by Michael Shannon’s very persona it seems (if he’s not Christopher Walken from the early 1980s, I don’t know who is). In the end, I’m not sure what it is (a modern day Noah’s Ark tale? the delusional breakdown of an unwell man? a comment on our modern anxious time?), but it’s something, and it’s well-worth watching.
