I read Wonderstruck today and am now convinced that Brian Selznick is basically a genius. You should go read it, soon. It’s over 600 pages but, as at least 400 of those are illustrated, it’s quite easy to get through in a day. And worth it. A very impressive feat indeed to be able to credibly weave thematic references to Oscar Wilde, David Bowie, silent cinema, Maurice Sendak, and The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler into a moving tale of loss,  museums, runaways, orphans, friendship, deaf culture, thunderstorms, and family. Color me impressed.
