BWDR TURNS THREE!
This month (July 20th to be exact) marked the official THIRD ANNIVERSARY of this humble site, known in its initial few months as Filmosophy—until somebody threatened to sue us for copyright violations and/or shut down the site altogether (remember that?)—and known ever since as A Bright Wall in a Dark Room. That silly little site that a handful of us (me, Tess, Michelle, Chris Cantoni, Amanda) started up in July 2009 to discuss films in a new kind of way (view our first ever post, an essay by Tess Lynch on Stealing Beauty) has since grown into a fairly respectable place for film/TV/life commentary in general: we are closing in on 40,000 followers on tumblr (39,301 as of this writing), and an additional 500-600 visitors (on average) from outside of tumblr view the site daily as well. In addition, two of our writers are actually getting married to each other this weekend, having started up a correspondence in the site’s early days—and I mean, how amazing is that?! (Good luck this weekend, you two!)
Anyway, every one of us wants to thank every one of YOU for all the comments, suggestions, emails, and support over the past three years. In order to show our appreciation in the previous two years, we put out an open call to our readers to tell us what movies they wanted us to write about around this time of year. Both years ended up being so fun and successful for all involved, that we’ve gone ahead and officially decided we will now do it every year for our site’s anniversary.
So: we are once again creating a week where YOU tell us what movies YOU want us to write about on the site. The most popular choices will then each be assigned to one of our staff writers (if you have a specific writer suggestion - i.e. I want Michelle to write about Flight of the Navigator! - feel free to leave that information with your pick as well), who will then go off and write the requested essays, and we will put them up on the site some time in early August.
Only films that have not previously been covered on the site will be considered. One vote per person. Leave your choice and/or comments in the comment section, via email (bwdr.editors@gmail.com) or by replying to this post directly via tumblr. Voting will remain open through the end of this week.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! Thanks to our loyal readers for another fantastic year!
