I am nervously awaiting the cinematic version of Cloud Atlas, willing to give it a chance perhaps only because I know it will put more money in author David Mitchell’s pockete, and he deserves all the money in the world for his enormous talent.
Still, look at that picture above, and be honest: this could end up being terrible. Especially when you consider the essentially unfilmmable nature of the novel itself—it’s hard to imagine that works so well on the page, and the intricate chinese-nesting-doll structure of the work as a whole, would ever work onscreen in two hours.
Anyway, here’s to hoping they found a way.
